Here is a little history on how we made The Greenman Movie.
In 2006 I was working on film in Ohio. And the director had asked me if I ever did a film on my own I told them it's been quite a while so I came back to Pittsburgh. I started to think about how many remakes were made and about how many dead movies were made, so my next thought was about urban legends in Pittsburgh, my favorite of which was that of the "green man tunnel."
So I started to write a script, got a copyright, and then proceeded to get a cast together, the crew and locations.
The only thing I didn't get was the grant.
So I started scouting locations and I got together one of the best film crews I could. I cast some seasoned veterans as actors. I cashed in a lot of chips and secured 22 locations. Then I did some intensive research on The Greenman urban legend.
We start to film, but it took us over a year because we only worked one day a week and that was Sunday. I was very lucky to keep my cast and crew together for a year, and I never operated a computer before so I had to learn that first, then I borrowed an editing system. Since I had never computer edited before, I had to teach myself various software editing programs to put the film together. It took me a while but after trial and error I edited the movie.
I was in the original Dawn of the Dead movie, shot here in Pittsburgh, so I asked some of my dear friends if they would help me.
If you're a fan of the "Dead" movies I think you'll like the fact that from Night of the Living Dead, I got Kyra Schon. I'm sure you all know who she is! I also got the two lead zombies from Dawn of the Dead -- Clayton Hilll as the sweater zombie, Sharon Hill as the nurse zombie, and Tommy Lafitte who was "Miguel." Then, Jim Krut, the helicopter zombie and Chuck Karol.
My seven leads were all newcomers as actors.
Everyone did a great job!
The Music score was arranged by my son, Joe Jr. and to say the least, it was all a labor of love.
I hope you enjoy the movie!
